eEye Releases Scanning Tool to Detect and Remediate the Latest RPC Vulnerability
(ALISO VIEJO, CA) September 10, 2003 eEye Digital Security announces the discovery of a critical remote vulnerability Microsoft Windows® RPC request handling. Microsoft and eEye released today detailed advisories to alert and inform users of Windows® of the need to immediately remediate vulnerable machines on their networks.
eEye also announces the immediate availability of a Retina® RPC Vulnerability Scanner to scan, detect and remediate this newly discovered RPC flaw. This tool is based on eEye’s award-winning Retina® Network Security Scanner and is being made available for free to assist IT administrators in their efforts to quickly remediate this vulnerability. The RPC vulnerability testing methodology utilized by both Retina and the RPC scanners are non-intrusive and dramatically more accurate than other tools currently available.
"This new vulnerability is reminiscent of the first RPC flaw and should be treated with the utmost urgency and priority by network administrators globally," said Marc Maiffret, Co-Founder, eEye Digital Security. "This is RPC and Blaster all over again with new patches required and a strong potential of new variants of the original Blaster worm emerging."
Customers of eEye’s Retina® Network Security Scanner already have the Microsoft Windows RPC vulnerability check as part of the Retina audit database. Users should scan their networks for vulnerable machines and follow the remediation instructions provided by Retina.
