Retina® 5.0 Delivers Unsurpassed Network Security Assessments for Workgroups and Enterprises
(ALISO VIEJO, CA) June 14, 2004 eEye® Digital Security, a leading developer of vulnerability management software solutions for enterprise security, today announced the introduction of version 5.0 of the Retina® Network Security Scanner. Retina 5.0 is the latest edition of the industry's leading network scanner for identifying security vulnerabilities within enterprise networks. In addition to its award-winning scanning accuracy, open architecture and non-disruptive scanning capabilities, Retina 5.0 introduces multiple unique features that set it apart from other software and managed service scanner offerings. Unlimited asset discovery, dramatically expanded reporting, improved OS detection and a new user interface combine to provide an unparalleled level of scanning accuracy while significantly improving the overall productivity and speed of an enterprise's vulnerability management function.
"The effectiveness of our approach to enterprise security -- eliminating vulnerabilities rather than just thwarting attacks -- has resulted in thousands of customer deployments of Retina around the globe," stated Firas Raouf, eEye's COO. "By employing the industry's most capable network vulnerability research team, eEye is in the best possible position to parlay this expertise and knowledge into the industry's most advanced software for protecting enterprise networks before an attack can stop them in their tracks. The introduction of Retina 5.0 further demonstrates this capability."
Retina leverages the expertise of eEye Digital Security's Research Team, incorporating the most up-to-date vulnerabilities database that is automatically downloaded at the beginning of each Retina session. This enables security professionals to proactively secure their networks against the most critical and relevant vulnerabilities. In addition to scanning against the most comprehensive database of known vulnerabilities, customers can write their own customized audits. These audits can be used to enforce internal security policies to verify such items as anti-virus deployments, approved machine configurations and application version control.
New Features for Retina 5.0
Retina 5.0 introduces several innovative features, including a Discovery Scan mode, which allows an enterprise to identify all of the assets within their network. Retina 5.0 now allows enterprises to get a complete view of their entire network and then perform specific vulnerability audits within their licensing infrastructure. This complete view is critical for companies' ongoing security planning, as well as for identifying "rogue" machines on enterprise networks that could potentially serve as an open door to attack. Retina can scan every machine on a company's network -- including a variety of operating system platforms (e.g., Windows, Unix, Linux), networked devices (e.g., servers, firewalls, routers, etc.), databases and third party or custom applications -- in record time. After scanning, Retina delivers a comprehensive report that details all vulnerabilities and recommended corrective actions and fixes.
Retina 5.0 also provides an integrated workflow approach to vulnerability assessment and remediation, guiding users through the discovery, audit, remediation and reporting of network vulnerabilities via a highly intuitive interface. Additionally, expanded reporting delivers the ability to sort data by vulnerability, machine type, level of risk and more. Enterprises can also customize specific reports for executive review or other purposes. These new reporting methods make for a faster, more efficient vulnerability discovery process -- as much as fifty percent quicker than previous processes.
The additional customization capabilities of Retina 5.0 extend to its scanning capabilities, as enterprises can determine how much information they want from a particular scan. Specifically, enterprises can scan for a wide range of variables, including OS, device, location and more, thus saving time and IT resources. In order to further speed the scanning process, eEye has included Internet Control Messaging Protocol (ICMP) OS detection, which provides for accurate identification of the type and version of OS running on enterprise networks.
All of these new capabilities -- as well as several others -- are built on top of the existing feature set within the award-winning Retina Network Security Scanner. Retina leads the industry in accuracy, its ability to scan enterprise networks without crashing systems and its open, modular architecture, making it the easiest product on the market to deploy, use, and integrate with existing enterprise applications. Unlike many competing technology approaches, eEye's non-intrusive scanning technology won't crash systems or applications. If even one percent of the machines within a large, distributed enterprise crash as a result of a scan, they must be re-booted, resulting in tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost productivity. eEye's Retina is also unique in its ability to perform the vast majority of its scans without administrative rights, thus allowing enterprises to quickly and easily secure their globally distributed networks.
Retina® Enterprise Suite
Retina 5.0 is now also integrated into the Retina Enterprise Suite, which includes the REM™ Security Management Console that aggregates information from multiple Retina scanners in a distributed enterprise to provide an integrated vulnerability management solution. The Retina Enterprise Suite gives enterprises the means to automate protection strategies that will ensure business continuity. The Retina Enterprise Suite delivers vulnerability assessment, remediation, patch automation and sophisticated workflow integration that allows IT and security departments to work together effectively to optimize resources and mitigate threats.
