eEye Digital Security Launches Free Retina WiFi Scanner to Address the Growing Business Concern of Wireless Network Security

Free WiFi Discovery Tool Leverages eEye’s Award-Winning Network Scanner

(ALISO VIEJO, CA) April 12, 2005 — eEye Digital Security®, a leading network security software provider enabling businesses to protect and manage their network infrastructure, today announced the availability of Retina® WiFi, a free network scanning utility that detects the presence of wireless devices located within the network or connected wirelessly to the network. This tool will detect rogue mobile devices and transmitting laptops, and with its advanced reporting capabilities, provide the means for businesses to assess their wireless security posture.

“As wireless links can pose a tremendous security risk, detecting unauthorized and possibly unsecured wireless links is a must,” said Frank Darden, Chief Technology Officer, Mission Critical Systems, Inc. “With its ability to reveal the status and parameters of wireless devices on the network, eEye’s Retina WiFi Scanner enables our company to ensure our customers’ networks are secure.”

For security and IT professionals who are responsible for securing their corporate computing environment and are concerned about wireless access within their environment, the Retina WiFi Scanner is a wireless device scanning tool that provides a real-time view of their network’s wireless security posture. The Retina WiFi discovery scanner can run on a standard Windows PC or Pocket PC and is backed by the most trusted name in vulnerability management. Although eEye’s Retina® Network Security Scanner already incorporates these capabilities, the importance of securing wireless networks prompted eEye to make this product available free to the general public.

Retina WiFi assesses networks for the location of wireless devices and summarizes the results in a wireless security status report. Reporting metrics may be aggregated within the REM Security Management Console as part of an overall vulnerability management solution. As a result, Retina WiFi allows organizations to detect and locate Wireless Access Points, including rogue devices and misconfigured laptops, attached to enterprise networks. Further, Retina WiFi enables organizations to be aware of who is accessing their network via the wireless devices attached to it, thus strengthening and securing their wireless network performance.

“Wireless security is a top priority for businesses today,” said Firas Raouf, chief operating officer of eEye Digital Security. “By leveraging Retina’s award-winning performance and capabilities, customers can now utilize a powerful WiFi scanner and incorporate the event data within their overall vulnerability management solution.”
