(ALISO VIEJO, CA) July 31, 2007 eEye Digital Security®, a leading developer of endpoint security and vulnerability management tools, today announced its Retina Network® Security Scanner and REM® Security Management Console products have been certified by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to meet eXtensible Configuration Checklist Description Format (XCCDF) specifications.
Retina, the industry standard for vulnerability discovery and assessment, provides vulnerability testing for multiple platforms, automatic fixes of vulnerabilities and the ability to create custom audits. REM provides an enterprise solution for remotely monitoring, reporting and managing the remediation of security events on networks, workstations and laptops.

Most recently eEye announced the REM Security Management Appliance 1505, a powerful 1U rack-mountable appliance that saves IT administrative overhead with quick deployment of integrated vulnerability, security, and incident management capabilities for their organization. Integrated with Retina, REM and Blink Professional unified client security, the REM Security Management Appliance meets the same XCCDF compatibility standards. XCCDF Specification
Information technology products are increasingly vulnerable to multiple threats, such as viruses and configuration disparity. With XCCDF, users can design easier, more uniform security benchmarks and allow benchmarks to be used with a variety of commercial and open tools.
Applying the same criteria and automated tools to multiple security benchmarks ensures known security practices and configuration settings.
XCCDF is an XML-based format that is flexible, vendor-neutral and suited for multiple checklist applications, including measuring conformance of an IT system to security benchmarks and generating benchmark test records.
